holding a mojito

I’ve been making this mojito all summer and it’s become my go-to cocktail. You just need fresh mint, a sugar free brown sugar replacement, fresh lime juice, light rum, club soda, and crushed ice. It takes about five minutes to muddle and pour, and it tastes just like the real thing without the sugar.

What is a Mojito?

A mojito is a traditional Cuban cocktail made with rum, lime, soda, sugar, and mint. I swap the sugar for a keto brown sugar substitute, and honestly you can’t tell the difference. With fresh mint leaves and lime wedges, this drink is bright, cold, and perfect for sitting by the pool.

Carbs in a Mojito

A typical mojito has around 11.3g of carbs and 5.3g of sugar per serving. This version? 1.5 net carbs per cocktail. That’s a huge difference, and you’re not sacrificing any flavor to get there.

Is Rum Keto?

Yes! Rum, whiskey, and vodka all have zero carbs. White rum or light rum both work in this low-carb cocktail. Just make sure you’re using a sugar free sweetener in the mix and not adding sugary mixers.

Other Summer Cocktails

Not a mojito person? Try a piña colada, strawberry daiquiri, or margarita instead.

The piña colada uses rum, coconut milk, and monkfruit sweetener for a tropical twist.

The strawberry daiquiri is another easy one that feels like vacation in a glass.

If you prefer tequila over rum, go with the margarita. All of these are low carb and taste great.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this mojito without alcohol?

Absolutely! Just skip the light rum and you've got a refreshing mocktail.

What can I substitute for the sugar-free brown sugar sweetener?

You can use erythritol or monk fruit instead. Just adjust the amount to taste since they vary in sweetness.

How should I store leftover mojito?

It's best fresh, but you can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours. The mint will lose some of its punch though.

Is this mojito suitable for a keto diet?

Yes! It's sugar free and only 1.5 net carbs per serving, so it fits easily into a keto diet.

Can I use bottled lime juice instead of fresh lime juice?

While fresh lime juice is recommended for the best flavor, you can use bottled lime juice in a pinch. Just make sure it doesn’t have added sugars!
