Some on the keto diet choose to eliminate dairy products. It might be because they are lactose intolerant and dairy products upset their stomach because they can’t be properly digested. For others, too much dairy causes inflammation or a stall in weight loss.
There are substitutions that can be made. For example, coconut cream can be used in place of heavy cream. Coconut oil can be subbed in for butter. Luckily, there are many dairy free options out there like nut milks, cream cheese, yogurts made from nuts; however, not all of these substitutes are keto friendly. Manufacturers tend to add carbohydrates in order to replace the dairy. We are left to make our own keto dairy free meals. Here is a collection of my favorite dairy free low carb options.
